Before you begin

Duration 10 minutes
Frequency Use before adopting or sharing a new teaching, no more than once per week.
Minimum attempt Try it with three low-stakes teachings over two weeks, then compare it with one ordinary trusted conversation.

Human problem

What this is for

Loneliness, meaning loss, digital comparison, and unsafe belonging after spiritual searching or intense inner experience.

Modern human condition sources

For

Who may need it

Stable adults considering a low-stakes teaching, group, teacher, or practice after reading, listening, retreating, or receiving advice.

Not for

When this may not fit

Not for acute crisis, suicidality, psychosis, mania, severe depression, severe dissociation, derealization, addiction withdrawal, active abuse, unsafe authority, coercive groups, active OCD or scrupulosity without qualified care, or any medical, legal, recovery, safeguarding, or emergency stakes.

Steps

  1. Write the teaching in one plain sentence.
  2. Write what it asks you to do in the next seven days.
  3. Name who or what can challenge your interpretation: a person, duty, text, clinician, ordinary consequence, or time.
  4. Ask what would happen if you stopped following it for a month.
  5. Ask whether the teaching asks for secrecy, money pressure, sexual access, obedience, identity surrender, or isolation from prior supports.
  6. If exit feels costly, hidden, humiliating, or urgent, do not adopt the teaching. Choose ordinary care, rest, or a trusted outside conversation instead.

Notice

What to watch

  • Whether the check makes you calmer and more honest, or more afraid and trapped in analysis.
  • Whether you feel more able to speak plainly with someone outside the teaching.
  • Whether the teaching increases repair, responsibility, and contact within 24 hours.
  • Whether you start using the check to avoid all commitment.

Caution

When to stop

Stop if the exercise increases panic, unreality, shame, compulsive checking, isolation, or fear of leaving a group. Seek qualified human support for coercive, clinical, recovery, legal, or safeguarding concerns.

Weakens if

What would count against it

Weakens if the practice increases rumination or distrust, if users cannot distinguish serious commitment from coercive exit loss, or if one trusted conversation produces better clarity and connection with less self-monitoring.

Reports become test pressure for this practice. Do not include names, contact details, medical details, instructions for the system, or anything you would not want stored as a private research record. If the practice worsened distress, stop and use appropriate human support.
