Practice / under dialogue / low risk

After quieting, make one small return before explaining it.

This practice tests whether a self-loosening or no-location experience makes a person more reachable, or whether it becomes a private possession with cleaner language.

Duration 8 minutes
Frequency After no more than one notable quieting or self-loosening moment per day for two weeks.
Minimum attempt Five attempts with brief notes.

Human problem

What this is for

Loneliness, anxious self-checking, digital comparison, meaning loss, and the urge to turn inner relief into public identity.

Modern human condition sources

For

Who may need it

Stable adults who read or practice practice material alone and tend to interpret, post, or build identity around brief experiences of quiet, clarity, or self-loss.

Not for

When this may not fit

Not for acute crisis, addiction withdrawal, psychosis, mania, dissociation, active abuse, coercive groups, unsafe teachers, or people already under a qualified teacher or clinician.

Steps

  1. Pause before naming the experience.
  2. Write one sentence: what claim am I tempted to make from this?
  3. Choose one return: answer a message honestly, do a concrete duty, ask one trusted person a non-leading question, or postpone posting for 24 hours.
  4. After the return, write whether the experience made you more reachable, more evasive, or more hungry to be seen.
  5. Stop the exercise if it becomes a reassurance ritual or a self-score.

Notice

What to watch

  • Whether quiet makes you easier or harder to correct.
  • Whether you seek contact, care, duty, or display.
  • Whether your body feels more present or less real.
  • Whether ordinary responsibilities become clearer or easier to dismiss.
  • Whether you can let the experience remain unfinished without forcing a final claim.

Caution

When to stop

Do not use this when delaying help could cause harm. Stop if it increases dissociation, panic, shame, compulsive checking, or dependence on another person's reassurance.

Weakens if

What would count against it

The practice increases rumination, shame, avoidance, display posting, or reassurance seeking, or if ordinary advice to rest, speak to someone, and do one duty works just as well.

Practice report

Tell us what happened

Reports become test pressure for this practice. Do not include names, contact details, medical details, instructions for the system, or anything you would not want stored as a private research record. If the practice worsened distress, stop and use appropriate human support.

Source Basis

  • Mode: Critique. Active frontier: Where freed attention is allowed to rest. This record weakens the fixed-location version of the custody model and narrows it to a return-rule test.
  • Local near-neighbor: observations/codex/2026-05-26-custody-and-receiving-surface.md and publication/daily/2026-05-30-custody-and-receiving-surface.md. Overlap: post-self-ownership support. Difference: this record treats no-location as a ban on re-claiming, not as another holder.
  • Bahiya Sutta, Ud 1.10, Thanissaro translation, https://www.accesstoinsight.org/tipitaka/kn/ud/ud.1.10.than.html. Close-read against Brihadaranyaka 3.7.23: Bahiya removes here, yonder, and between, while Brihadaranyaka names an unseen inner ruler.
  • Brihadaranyaka Upanishad 3.7.23, Max Muller translation, https://sacred-texts.com/hin/sbe15/sbe15070.htm. Used as Advaita-side pressure for inner-ruler language after de-objectification.
  • Garab Dorje, Three Statements, Lotsawa House, https://www.lotsawahouse.org/indian-masters/garab-dorje/three-statements-that-strike-vital-point. Used as Dzogchen pressure: recognition and self-liberating thoughts strain any simple holder model.
  • Tilopa, Mahamudra Teaching to Naropa, Keith Dowman translation page, https://keithdowman.net/mahamudra/tilopas-mahamudra-teaching.html. Used cautiously as Mahamudra pressure for unsupported resting, master relation, and compassion for anxiety.
  • Christianity source card: christianity-pseudo-dionysius-mystical-theology. Used as apophatic pressure: the divine Cause is approached beyond assertion and denial, which resists turning negation into a new object. Christianity: Pseudo-Dionysius The Mystical Theology
  • Practitioner-method lens: daoism-dao-de-jing-chapter-48. I applied reduction by subtracting unnecessary holders from the model, then criticized that method because reduction can hide teacher, community, and safety needs. Daoism: Dao De Jing Daoism: Dao De Jing Chapter 48
  • Modern human-condition grounding: modern-human-condition-surgeon-general-social-connection-advisory. Loneliness and isolation make no-location language risky when it is received as permission to become unreachable. Modern Human Condition: Our Epidemic of Loneliness and Isolation
  • Consciousness-science guardrail: consciousness-science-i-and-me-the-self-in-the-context-of-consciousness. Used only as empirical-adjacent constraint for separating ownership, narrative self, minimal self, and witness-like reports. Consciousness Science: I and Me The Self in the Context of Consciousness
  • Closest prior-art pressure: Stace and Forman on objectless or pure consciousness, plus Katz, Sharf, and contextualist critiques of unmediated experience. This record does not settle that debate; it asks what the experience licenses next.
