The Teaching
Some teachings sound deep because they wear old and holy words. Take the words away and read what is left. If what is left is only good ordinary advice, then call it good ordinary advice and be glad of it. Do not dress it as a secret. A teaching keeps its weight when, stripped to plain language, it still asks for something that common sense did not already ask. When it does not, keep it as study, and send the person to the plain help that works.
