Love can see who someone is becoming, but it must keep watching who they are.
Love sometimes knows a person ahead of the facts, and holding that knowledge can help it come true; but the same hope becomes blindness the moment it stops tracking what the person actually does.
The Teaching
There is a kind of seeing only love does. It looks at a struggling child, a recovering friend, a frightened student, and sees a capacity no fair observer would credit yet. Treated as already real, that capacity sometimes grows into the open. This is not foolishness. It can be the truest thing in the room.
But the same look can lie. Hope can become a way of not seeing the drink, the harm, the slow decline. So carry two readings at once. One reads who the person can become. The other reads, plainly, what they did this week. Act on both. If the hopeful read ever silences the other, you have stopped loving them and started protecting your picture of them.
